Alex Song
Hope i dont get moaned at for giving Alex his own thread but i thought he looked a class act when he came on, i dont remember him giving the ball away, and he controlled the tempo well.
Surely vying for a start against Pool.
How did everyone else view his performance ?

Re: Alex Song
Our best midfielder since super scott by some margin and with significantly more pace. I have no idea how we managed this signing but it's fantastic

Was Noble playing?

Re: Alex Song
Come on Ron. I am sure Nobes would have run a long way for 90 minutes last night.

Just hope that the others can "upgrade to he's wavelength

Especially the forwards

paolo 8:20 Tue Sep 16
Re: Alex Song
He have the ball away twice in his own half, let's take the blinkers of guys. He is unfit and will no doubt improve in time.

Re: Alex Song
Agree with Paolo...thought he looked a bit slow/rusty at times...lucky to get away with a couple if cheap free kicks to get him out of trouble. Sure will improve and showed some class, but didn't think last night was true masterclass from him.

Re: Alex Song
Song will give us something we've not had for a long long time. A player who can collect the ball deep, turn out, and play forwards - NOT BACKWARDS. He looked like he was in 2nd gear. He is a massive coup for us.

Him and Kouyate shouldn't be getting over run by many teams this year.

Nailed it, ability to take the ball in tight areas and make a forward pass is something we have rarely seen in our team. Can't wait until he is fully firing.....we seem to be an away side this year so United away if he is 100% fit should collect a point at least

He looked very assured great signing.

Re: Alex Song
Not afraid to take the ball and play himself out of tight spots, did look classy and confident which is great to see. Important we get equally good players around him he can play off.
Aside from that, his movement and how he makes himself available for a pass will be extremely valuable. He is always on the move.
I'd love this move to become permanent but I don't see it. I suspect there will be a lot of interest by the end of the season.

Re: Alex Song
looked good but there were times when he was just jogging around the pitch.
reckon he will come in for zarate on saturday.

Johnson 9:55 Tue Sep 16
Re: Alex Song
You could easily go 4-3-3 with Kouyate, Noble (c), Song with a front three of Sakho, Valencia and Downing.

It would mean dropping Zarate but then he has to fight to get his place back.

That middle three with overrun old man Gerrard I reckon.

One McAvennieeeeee 9:57 Tue Sep 16
Re: Alex Song
I think ZARATE could be key on Saturday. Basically put him on Gerrard. Try and give him the run around.

Villa done the same with Agbonlahor Sat and Weimann last season.
